A roots reggae journey through awareness, resilience, and warm analog soul.
Unblessed, the debut solo album by Italian reggae artist Mikelino Rutz, doesn’t aim to sugarcoat reality — it seeks to reflect it. Across ten original tracks, the Salento-based singer, composer, and producer delivers a conscious, roots-driven work that explores personal transformation and collective awareness, all without losing the uplifting essence that reggae carries at its core.
From the first track to the last, Rutz’s raspy, unmistakable voice becomes a vehicle for lyrics that speak of social issues, inner change, and the human need for meaning.
The album is entirely produced by Filomuzik, a long-time collaborator of Rutz’s, and the mix and mastering were handled by Gabriele Loria at Rupa Rupa Records. The result is a warm, analog sound that gives the project a timeless quality, something rare in today’s digital-heavy productions, and especially fitting for the genre’s rich traditions.
Rutz’s musical background, which began with instruments and piano before he found his true expression through the microphone, is subtly woven into his compositions. His sound blends Caribbean roots with elements of dancehall, dub, and digital, all held together by a strong sense of purpose: music not just for movement, but for reflection.
Unblessed is not just an album title, it’s a statement. It challenges the listener to look at what it means to be “unblessed” in a world obsessed with appearances, and invites them to find strength in awareness, rhythm, and the power of voice.
