Ska’s Fallen Genius is a forthcoming comic book series coming in 2022, written/created by Adam Reeves and illustrated by Costantinos Pissourios (AKA Versioncos). It tells the story of Jamaican trombonist Don Drummond who was a member of pioneering ska band the Skatalites during the early 1960s. A supremely gifted and hugely influential musican, Drummond unfortunately suffered from severe mental health issues which led him to take the life of his lover, dancer Margarita Mahfood, spending the rest of his life in a mental asylum as a consequence. The comic book series will get to the heart of his story and reveal the truth behind Don and Margarita’s lives and the tragedy that befell them. Adapted with kind permission from the 2013 biography Don Drummond: The Genius and Tragedy of the World’s Greatest Trombonist by Heather Augustyn, Trombone Man: Ska’s Fallen Genius will be a Kickstarter crowdfunded project, available to pre-order along with especially created merchandise only available via the Kickstarter platform.
